Help kids get outside on nature field trips on conserved lands in the Rogue Valley! Southern Oregon Land Conservancy conserves and enhances land in Southern Oregon to sustain our human and natural communities forever.
Southern Oregon Land Conservancy (SOLC) works toward climate resiliency and ecological sustainability on hyper-local and regional levels. They work cooperatively with landowners and partners to conserve non-federal lands in Jackson and Josephine Counties. For example, by protecting specific forest and riparian areas, SOLC bolsters aquatic ecosystems’ capacity to maintain cool-temperature stream flows with high water volume—two factors that climate change can degrade, and that directly affect river inhabitants like native salmon and steelhead.
SOLC also works to connect community members to the remarkable lands where we live; they are committed to serving communities that have been excluded from land access and conservation whether by accident or design. To this end, they offer field trip programs, public access hikes, volunteer opportunities, and collaborations with other organizations.
Funds will be used to support SOLC's field trip program, which helps local students develop scientific, ecological, and social-emotional literacy. Their primary teaching tool is nature journaling, a flexible and adaptable approach which invites students to practice observation, inquiry, and connection-building in the field. Field trips are offered free of charge to students in Medford, Central Point, Eagle Point, Talent, and Ashland, and they are currently building relationships with Josephine County schools as well.
